Veteran Nollywood couple Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary yesterday, and at this time when marriages do not last the length of time it takes to cook a pot of beans, especially among celebrities, their love is indeed worthy of notice.
From Ini Edo to Toyin Aimakhu, we have seen several celebrity marriages crash and burn in recent years, and far be it from us to judge anyone. However, one would think that with all the money and fame, their marriages would have lasted longer, but this sadly isn’t the case.
Apparently, money, fame, and reputation managers cannot sustain love. However, this three pointers from Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva’s marriage just might.
- Keep Your Business Private – one only need look at the celebrity marriages that have succeeded to know that keeping your private life private is the key to staying married. No one needs to know what your husband ate for dinner, Patrick and Ireti Doyle, Gloria and Nobert Young, among others, are a perfect examples.
- Walk The Talk – It’s pretty easy to love and cherish your husband on social media, but Nigerian celebrities need to learn how to be wives and husbands in real life, beyond the glamour of celebrity weddings.
- Avoid Public Fights – Nothing makes for a better story than people airing their marital linens in public, even though it never ends well for the concerned parties, and everyone knows that, except maybe Toyin Aimakhu and Adeniyi Johnson. Regardless, it is imperative that as a celebrity couple, you keep your marital disagreements out of the media, if you want your marriage to last.
Now, this is not to say that Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva, or other celebrity marriages that have stood the test of time, are perfect, no. It just means that marriage is a big deal, and if handled right, can be very lasting and fruitful.
