The Kardashian and Jenner sisters seem to live in clear plastic heels, but their see-through Yeezys aren’t exactly the best choice for your feet.
“You are putting your feet at serious risk by essentially wrapping them in non-breathable plastic,” said Dr. Suzanne Levine when taking to Page Six about the transparent shoe trend.
“Without any circulation, the moist environment can increase preexisting fungal conditions or bacterial infections, in addition to increasing your risk for blisters.”
“The non-breathable material leads to hyperhidrosis [excessive sweating] and bromhidrosis [excessive odor] — in other words, ‘smelly feet!’”
Still, there’s no denying that plastic shoes are everywhere this summer. From the aforementioned pumps, sandals and boots produced by Kanye West‘s Yeezy label to Zara, it’s certainly in trend right now.
“I would not recommend them as a daily shoe, but being a real ‘shoe-aholic’ myself, I could see how the trend is tempting,” Dr. Levine admitted.
She advised, “wear them when the sun goes down, only for a few hours at a time and start off with the shorter pairs.”
