Ethiopia Bans Adoption Of Kids By Foreigners After US Couple Starve Girl To Death

Due to fears that some kids are facing negoect and abuse in their new home abroad, Ethiopia has banned the adoption of children by foreigners.

According to politicians in the country, orphans and vulnerable youngsters should be cared for and protected through local support systems rather than risk uncertain futures abroad.

There was more than 15,000 adoptions from Ethiopia to America between 1999 and 2016, according to the US Department of State but was put under spotlight after a US couple were convicted of manslaughter in 2011. Their adopted daughter Hana Williams died in the backyard of the couple’s home where she was forced to stay as part of a strick system of child rearing outlined in a Christian parenting book.

Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt adopted their daughter Zahra Marley from the east country in 2005.
