Five Things You Didn’t Know About The Gucci Logo

No, Hushpuppi is not a brand ambassador.

Guccio Gucci

Italian brand, Gucci is one of the biggest names in luxury brand of fashion and leather goods. Founded in Florence, Italy in 1921, Gucci has since become an household name and its logo is instantly recognizable all over the world. Although the Gucci symbol is immensely popular, here are five and a half things we bet you didn’t know about them.

1. The Double G Doesn’t Stand For Gucci Gucci

The double G logo that everyone knows so well actually stands for Guccio Gucci, the name of the company’s founder. Don’t be disappointed, we thought it was Gucci Gucci too.

2. The Logo Was Created By Guccio’s Son

Aldo Gucci

It was Aldo Gucci, Guccio Gucci’s forward thinking son that created the famous emblem that we have all come to love today. Aldo his father’s initials to design the brand logo in 1933.

3. Gucci Once Lost The Right To Its Own Logo

Believe it or not; when Gucci’s failed to renew the trademark rights for their logo in 2012 , it left them in the murky waters of litigation. Sadly for the brand, they lost the court case and other fashion brands were allowed to copy their iconic symbol.

4. The Name Usually Accompanies The Logo

Granted the legal battles they faced because of the highly coveted logo, this should come as no surprise. The intertwined Gs are always accompanied by the name. This however has not disrupted the aesthetic appeal of the logo.

5. The label is almost 100 years old

At 96 years old, Gucci is one of oldest luxury labels in the world.

And a bonus fact:

Social media noisemaker sensation Hushpuppi is not a Gucci brand ambassador.
