#InternationalWomensDay: #WomenWeLove – Omoyemi Akerele

A force to reckon with in the global fashion industry, Omoyemi Akerele is the first woman in our #WomenWeLove series.

Omoyemi, a Master’s Degree holder in Law, abandoned what was a very promising law career to discover and ultimately pursue her passion – fashion.

But she knew the creative and design process of fashion wasn’t for her, she was mostly interested in the finished product. This led her to Image Consulting at a time when it was almost an uncharted territory.

She went on to work as the senior style editor at True Love, set up a styling and image consulting firm with Bola Balogun in 2005, and later went on to found her company Style House Files – a Fashion Business Development Agency that primarily focuses on the advancement of the Nigerian and African Fashion Industry.

Style House Files produces what is touted as the biggest fashion event in Nigeria, the Lagos Fashion & Design Week (LFDW) as well as its numerous offshoots and parallels – Fashion Business Series, Fashion Focus, the Human Capacity Development Centre among others.

As at its last run, LFDW featured 62 designers from across Africa and had approximately 7,000 people in attendance.

Omoyemi has been instrumental in pushing a lot of designers to the international spotlight through LFDW but also through her company’s partnership with Pitti Immagine W, a premier womenswear trade fair in Italy where designers get to show their pieces to key buyers and important players in the Industry.
