The Catholic Church Just Gave Her Priests The Right To Forgive Abortion Indefinitely

Abortion has always been viewed as a grave sin by the Catholic Church; so much that before now, it’s forgiveness was a duty reserved for bishops or a special confessor.

But last year at the start of the church’s “Holy Year of Mercy”, Pope Francis had given all Catholic priests the power to absolve the sin of abortion for the duration of the holy year which elapsed on November 20, 2016.

However, in a surprising twist of events, the Pope who has exhibited a more open mind than his predecessors, just extended indefinitely, the power of priests to forgive the “sin of abortion”.

In a document released at the close of the holy year yesterday, the pope said he wanted to “restate as firmly as I can that abortion is a grave sin, since it puts an end to an innocent life” but “there is no sin that God’s mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled with (God)”.

What do you think of this new development?
