‘It’s Important To Have The Courage To Be The Best Version Of Yourself’-Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington is on the cover of Allure’s November issue.

In her interview, the actress talks about embracing her natural curls and how she’s teaching her children to also do the same.

“I like to wear my natural texture, especially now because I have children and I want them to know that their hair is perfect as it is. They don’t have to change it or straighten it. They can, but they don’t have to.”

Kerry discloses what she discovered while wearing her natural hair.

“It totally saves time!I’d been relaxing my hair since I was a little girl, so part of it was just wanting to see what would happen if I didn’t, quitting has been such a time-saver, and my hair feels much healthier now. It’s been fun getting to know my real curls.”

She also reveals playing Olivia on Scandal comes with a lot of work while trying to look flawless on-screen.

“There’s someone who follows me around all day long [on the set], Like, literally follows me to make sure there’s not a single hair out of place. This is somebody’s full-time job. Then someone follows me around to add powder so that I never look shinier than I’m supposed to.”

She then goes on to say she hopes she can make her daughter realize she’s still beautiful with or without makeup.

“I want to set the example for Isabelle that my mom set for me. I never felt as though she put on makeup to fix a sense of insecurity or impress others; she did it just to feel good, I want my daughter to know that she deserves to feel pretty, but then let her decide what that means for her. It’s important to have the courage to be the best version of yourself and not try to look like anyone else.”
