Lawyer Sentenced To 3 Years In Jail For Saying Women Who Wear Ripped Jeans Deserve To Be Raped

Clearly being a member of the Legislature isn’t a guarantee you have common sense. Rape is a great moral wrong against women, the human race and God and most of the perpetrators of this crime and their supporters hide under one reason or the other. The most popular being that the lady’s dressing invited rape.

Nabih al-Wahsh, an Egyptian Lawyer has been sentenced to 3 years in jail for saying that women who wear ripped jeans should be raped in punishment. The convict said this on a TV panel show in October during a debate on a draft law of prostitution.

He said, “Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing? I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to sexually harass her and a national duty to rape her.” He added that “protecting morals is more important than protecting borders.”

The lawyer’s remarks sparked fury across the country and Egypt’s National Council for Women announced it would be filing a complaint against the TV channel. It issued a plea for media outlets to refrain from providing a platform for individuals who make incendiary comments that incite violence against women.

His statement was declared as “flagrant call” for rape and violated “everything in the Egyptian constitution.” by the Egypt National Council for Women’s Rights. The council has also filed a complaint with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation about the Oct. 19 broadcast.
