Miss UK Hands Over Crown After Being Told She Was Too Fat To Contest

Zoiey Smale, 28, a size 10 beauty queen, was named Miss UK after winning the UK round of the Miss United Continents contest in June this year.

But as she was ready to represent the UK in Ecuador, she said the organisers told her she needed to lose as much weight as possible to stand a chance in the competition.

“I think it’s important to empower women and know it’s OK to be healthy, educated and a good role model. I was going to go out of protest, however, what example would that be setting?”

Adding to that, she was told she needs to go on a diet plan as she is too big.

“I’m not big at all I’m just bang on average, I just think to be told to lose as much weight as possible for a competition, why would people say that? It’s horrible and it made me feel so rubbish about myself for a long, long time, she confessed.

Zoey decided to give up her title because no one has the right to tell her what to do or dictate what she should put in her body.

“For a person to tell me to change myself to fit in with a company makes me feel sick, How are people allowed to dictate what I put in my body? Beauty is not determined by the size you are on a clothes tag. So I gave up my title.”
