Naomi Osaka has finally spoken up on what happened at the US Open Finals.
In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, the 20 year old said:
You’re told to turn around and tried to focus, but in my mind I really wanted to know what was going on because I couldn’t hear but I heard a lot of people in the crowd making noise and I wanted to know what was going on.
She also said the reason she cried while receiving her trophy was because she thought the crowd was booing her. Ellen asked her what Serena Williams whispered to her and she replied,
She [Serena Williams] said she was proud of me and I should know that the crowd wasn’t booing at me.
The tennis player who is ranked number 7 in the world intended to buy her parents a TV with her prize money but was gifted one by Ellen along with a proposed date with Black Panther star, Michael B Jordan.
