Nigerian Bobsled Team Finish Well At Winter Olympics With Personal Best

Nigeria’s very first bobsled team came in the last position at the Olympics despite finishing at their personal best. Coming in at 20th place in Pyeongchang, the team finished more than seven seconds after Germany, the gold medalists.

Despite getting the wooden spoon, the ladies were still in high spirits. The team’s driver, Seun Adigun, had this to say about her team’s performance:

‘It’s quite amazing, I’m overwhelmed with joy and overwhelmed with the idea of knowing that history was made and we gave everything we had to do it. This was just one of those days that you can’t really describe. Full of all kinds of emotions — full of relief, full of history.’

The Nigerian bobsled and skeleton team, which consisted of Ngozi Onwumere, Seun Adigun and Akuoma Omeoga, impressed a number of attendees including Nigeria’s Chef de Mission to the 2018 Winter Olympics, Gbenga Elegbeleye.

Considering the fact that the ladies had to make a last minute change to their line up, their performance is even more impressive. Ngozi Onwumere had to partner with Seun Adigun and replace Akuoma Omeoga when Omeoga fell ill.
