Whoop whoop! Congratulations are in order for Nigerian fashion designer, Kenneth Izedonmwen of Kenneth Ize who just made 2019’s shortlist for the LVMH Prize!

Kenneth Izedonmwen

Kenneth joins 19 other designers from across the world who were carefully selected from about 1700 applicants to compete for the very coveted prize of 300,000 Euros and a year’s worth of mentoring from the conglomerate which houses luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Moet and Hennessy.

Raised in Austria, the 28-year-old designer has carved a niche for himself in the industry and even gotten the attention of the international media for his hand-woven designs.

Also on the list is South African designer, Thebe Magugu; making him and Kenneth the only two Africans in the list of 20 designers from 15 countries.

The 20 candidates will be screened down to eight finalists by a panel of 63 fashion professionals after a two-day showroom at LVMH’s Avenue Montaigne headquarters on the first and second of March during Paris Fashion Week.

And in the words of the iconic Issa Rae, we’re rooting for everybody black – or African!
