Chimamanda Adichie has (once again) sent the internet into a frenzy.
While speaking with former US presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton at a PEN World Voices Festival lecture at the Cooper Union in Manhattan on Sunday, the opinionated author asked Hillary why her Twitter account begins with “wife”.
“In your Twitter account, the first word that describes you is ‘Wife.’ And then I think it’s ‘Mom,’ and then it’s ‘Grandmother. And when I saw that, I have to confess that I felt just a little bit upset. And then I went and I looked at your husband’s Twitter account, and the first word was not ‘husband’,” she said to the former FLOTUS.
To which Hillary responded, “When you put it like that, I’m going to change it.” She however quickly added that women should be able to celebrate both their personal and professional achievements quoting the late former First Lady Barbara Bush, who said: “At the end of the day, it won’t matter if you got a raise, it won’t matter if you wrote a great book, if you are not also someone who values relationships.
The internet is currently divided over the author’s comments. See some of the reactions below.
Chimamanda Adichie is UPSET because Hillary Clinton’s Twitter Bio starts with “Wife” among many other ‘qualifications. ????
Beyonce just gave Adichie the platform to derail her career as a writer. She’s become the leader of a bickering, self righteous, shrilling mob. Shame

If you don’t see anything wrong in Chimamanda saying she was “a little bit upset” because Hillary started her twitter bio with “Wife” when the basics of feminism is for women to be able to do whatever they want, then you have a problem.

If you’re a married man on Twitter, please add “Husband” to your Twitter Bio and tell your wife to remove “wife” from hers. Before Chimamanda Adichie comes across it and gets upset. ????

Don’t forget Clinton is a much more accomplished woman than Adichie, a renowned lawyer in prime, a senator and a Presidential candidate.
She has actually DONE more for women empowerment in her lifetime than Adichie– Not MERE talks, but positive acts and initiatives.

Well i liked how Chimamanda Adichie Painted her perspective of ” Feminism” on the Ted stage a couple of years ago, but this her comment on Hillary Clinton having’ ‘Wife’ on her Bio is mind-boggling, like you have a problem with a WIFE having WIFE on her BIO i dont get it pic.twitter.com/EWLeF74ZFW

Trying to understand what business it is of Chimamanda Adichie to dictate how Hillary chooses to define herself to the world.

Obama Has Dad, Husband In His Bio Just Like Hillary. Does That Make Them Less Of An Achiever?
Out Of Many Issues In The World To Be Upset About, Chimamanda Adichie Chose To Be Upset About A Twitter Bio?
Her Kind Of Feminism Is Fascist And A Danger To Women Than Advantage. pic.twitter.com/QuMTlUcWaa

Probably because she does not see anything wrong with being a wife and it is non of Chimamanda’s business? https://t.co/RONajB6lgK

Chimamanda is not happy that Hilary Clinton’s twitter bio starts with the word “wife”.
Looooooooool.
Feminists need to understand that they cannot shove their brand of feminism down the throats of all women.
The last thing we need is women bullying each other.

There were some who didn’t understand the backlash, as according to them, the author was merely asking a question.
HRC understood and answered Chimamanda’s question. She even went as far as to say she will change her twitter bio. If the woman herself, who is supremely intelligent sees no issue and takes no offence with the question. Please explain to me why all of you are losing your minds?

I don’t understand how anyone will describe Chimamanda’s question as hatred towards men. Ffs this has nothing to do with men, its simply about how women identify themselves which doesn’t even concern men. But no, everyday is a ‘drag a feminist day’.

Chimamanda asked a question, one feminist to another. The person she asked the question understood its complexities and the reason it’s a germane question. Yet, y’all are vexed. ????????????????

And then these ones…
I think Chimamanda asked the wife question to Hillary in a way that was even subtle and respectful.
The question that was really on the audience’s mind was: why haven’t you divorced Bill? Why are you still married to that man?

Chimamanda can attack people’s bio but can’t tell us what happened to Kainene in the end ? It’s calm.
