At first Funke Akindele‘s name was in the casts for Marvel’s Comics ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and then it got replaced with Genevive Nnaji‘s. Turned out the whole thing was a hoax and Nigerians who had already begun anticipating to see a Nigerian actor in the movie didn’t hesitate to show their disappointment.
Well, cry no more, our own girl Sope Aluko is in Hollywood big movie Black Panther where she starred alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassetta and others! She played Shaman – a powerful primal leader who calls upon nature spirits for aid or guidance.
Sope who is a Nigerian-British-American was born in Nigeria and raised in UK speaks four languages including her native language Yoruba. She is a mother of four teenage boys and has been married for twenty years.
She has had roles on Netflix’s “Bloodline”, NBC’s “Law & Order SVU” and “Parks & Recreation”, and guest appearances on USA Network’s “Burn Notice”, “Graceland” and Lifetime’s “Army Wives”, etc.
For the Black Panther premiere, Sope paid homage to her Nigerian roots by wearing a green and orange dress by Nigerian designer, Deola Sagoe.
