Tiwa Savage & More Nigerian Celebrities Are Embracing Photoshop & Failing Woefully At It!

When you are in the spotlight where your livelihood largely depends on selling a perfectly packaged image to a, sometimes, gullible public, it’s no surprise that you’ll want to present the best possible version of yourself at all times. But does that necessarily have to involve selling a barefaced lie? Tiwa Savage and Oge Okoye seem to think so.

International celebrities – everyone from Beyonce to Mariah CareyKim Kardashian, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga have at one time or the other enlisted the help of Photoshop to alter or improve their appearances and for every time they’ve failed at it, they have been severely dragged on the internet for it.

The backlash their international counterparts have received in the past is however neither discouraging our local celebrities from hopping on the digital nip and tuck trend, nor teaching them to do better. Maybe they simply assume that the people down here are not smart enough to detect the bent railings as in the case of Tiwa or the curved gate as in the case of Oge. Or maybe they simply don’t care.

Granted, it’s easier and cheaper to just photoshop the potbelly away or edit a couple more inches onto your hips than it is to go through rigorous workout routines or worse still go under the knife.

And if I’m being fair, I do sympathise with them. It can’t be easy being in the spotlight where people notice and judge every ounce of fat and every strand of hair that is out of place.

But from where I stand, it is far more honourable and dignifying to live your truth – be that a flat butt or a flabby waistline – than it is to flaunt a lie and worse still be caught at it. *Cringe*
