3 Reasons Why No Winner of MBGN Will Win Miss World

How would you rate the MBGN 2015 contest which held during the weekend? Just there? Good? Or maybe just plain awful?

Our guess is you chose the last option, and we agree. In fact, we believe that the ‘awfulness’ of this competition is the reason why Nigeria has lost any chance of winning in the Miss World competition since the early 2000s, remember our glory days?

Let this video of Agbani Darego in 2001 refresh your memory…and then we had Omowunmi Akinnifesi too, awesome women.

And this trend will continue for 3 reasons:

  • Dumb contestants – Okay, maybe that’s a tad harsh, but you’ll agree that it’s contestants like those we saw this year that make it seem like all pretty girls are air-heads.
  • The ‘fakeness’ – Last I checked, being MBGN is supposed to be about all round beauty, which means any contestants must be pretty, smart and truly Nigerian. But what we have now is a mix of girls with fake accents trying to be foreign. Which totally defeats the ‘Nigerianess’ of it all.

Watch Miss Ebonyi, Abuja and Edo murder English language all in an attempt to fake an accent…Miss Edo especially ????

  • The bias towards light-skinned girls –  We fear the MBGN committee might be kinda racist, as this year would be the first time in along that a non-yellow person would be crowned winner of MBGN, and while the colour really shouldn’t matter.

However, there might be hope after all, in this year’s winner MBGN, Miss Unoaka Anyadike…We’ll wait and see.
