British Vogue Just Got A Black Editor-In-Chief For The First Time In Over 100 Years & He’s From West Africa! ????

Edward Enninful just made history! The 45-year-old was this morning announced as the new editor-in-chief of British Vogue, making him the first man to ever hold the coveted title.

Edward takes over from Alexandra Shulman, who resigned in January after 25 years with the publication.

The role of Editor-In-Chief of a publication like British Vogue is no small feat. There is a reason why whoever holds the title is revered and treated like fashion royalty. It’s surely a huge shoe to step into but we have no doubt that Edward will fill it in just nicely.

Below are a few facts you should know about the fashion guru.

  • He was born in Ghana to a seamstress mother but later moved to London with his family at a very young age.
  • He was scouted on a train by stylist Simon Foxton when he was 16 and spent a good part of his college days juggling modelling with his studies.
  • At age 18, Edward became the fashion director of i-D magazine, making him the youngest-ever fashion director of an international fashion title.
Receiving his OBE
  • Queen Elizabeth II honoured him with an OBE in 2016 for his work in fashion and he was accompanied by his dear friend, Naomi Campbell to pick up the award.

  • Edward has been contributing editor for both Italian Vogue and American Vogue, and played a huge part in some of the publications’ most iconic issues.
  • He currently works as fashion and style editor at W Magazine – a position he has held since 2011.

  • With over 25 years in the fashion industry, Edward has worked with some of the biggest brands in fashion including Calvin Klein, Celine, Gucci, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana among several others.

  • When he assumes his role on August 1, Edward will become the first man to helm the affairs of British Vogue in it’s over 100 years of existence.
  • Edward will also become the first black person ever to hold the title of EIC of the publication.
