Nearly two weeks after being hospitalized for a reported drug overdose, singer Demi Lovato has released a statement, asking for “time to heal and focus” and promising to “keep fighting.”
The statement, posted on Demi’s Instagram account, doesn’t offer any specifics about the incident but does address the singer’s open and ongoing battle with addiction.
She also went on to thank her fans.
I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond,” she wrote.
I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.
Lovato was hospitalized on July 24 after an apparent overdose. It was originally reported that it was a heroin overdose but Demi’s reps said some of the information reported in the wake of her hospitalization was “incorrect.”
In March, Demi celebrated six years of sobriety. But in June, she released “Sober,” a new song that alluded to new struggles with substance abuse.
