Franca Raisa Gets Candid On Why She Decided To Give Selena Gomez A Kidney

In a joint interview with Today, Selena Gomez and her friend, Francia Raisa who donated one of her kidneys to the singer to help save her life, opened up about the whole situation and what it felt like for both of them.

She further said she couldn’t bring herself to ask anyone to volunteer their kidney when she realized she had to undergo a surgery to save her life.

“My kidneys were just done. That was it and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life.”

Francia said she didn’t know her friend needed help until she couldn’t do anything herself and she volunteered to give a kidney up without a second thought.

“One day she came home and she was emotional. I hadn’t asked anything. I knew she hadn’t been feeling well, She couldn’t open a water bottle one day. She chucked it and she started crying. And I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ and that’s when she told me. And she goes, ‘I don’t know what to do. The list is seven to ten years long. It just vomited out of me, I was like, Of course I’ll get tested.”

Adding that, she completed her testing in a day because it was an emergency situation already.

After the surgery Selena had to go back in because her new kidney was turning around inside her body.

My teeth were like grinding, I was freaking out, It was a six hour surgery that they had to do on me, and the normal kidney process is actually two hours. Apparently one of the arteries had flipped. I’m very grateful that there are people who know what to do in that situation.”

Selena revealed in an Instagram post in September that she underwent surgery due to her battle with the chronic autoimmune disease Lupus.
