Mark Salling who played football-star-turned-singer Noah Puckerman on the show has allegedly killed himself six weeks before he was due to be sentenced on child pornography on March 7. His body was found on Tuesday morning after his family had reported he was missing and feared he was planning to hang himself.
Salling faced four to seven years in prison after entering a guilty plea to a federal charge of possessing material involving the sexual exploitation of minors which involved children as young as 3. According to Daily Mail, his suicide has cost his victims $50,000 each that the judge was going to order him to pay them at his sentencing.
‘I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning,’ his lawyer Michael Proctor said in a statement yesterday.
‘Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment. He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected.’
Salling was arrested in Los Angeles on December 29th, 2015 after investigators received a tip reportedly from a woman that appeared several times in the child pornography Salling had obtained. There were reportedly over 50,000 images and videos of child pornography and erotica in his laptop while a thumb drive held an additional 4,000 images and 160 videos.
In August last year, Salling attempted suicide and told a judge in December that he was on medication for depression.
The actor’s body was found ‘hanging from a tree’ near the Starwood Riding Club, six miles from his home in Los Angeles, California.
