#HeinekenLFDW2015 – Style or Borderline Crazy?

By Anuoluwapo Komolafe

Disclaimer: I don’t have the best style or taste in fashion but I am ME.

I am sure you are all wondering why I had to lay that out first but what I am about to write comes straight from the depths of my heart (means I’m taking it P).

I was privileged to have attended the 2nd day of the Lagos Fashion and Design week …….(I want to go for the final day if I get enough ‘ginger’).

In true ‘Anu Fashion’ aka simple and comfortable, I went there to work, feed my eyes and of course gather some aso-ebi styles(I must not be left out of the #asoebibella trend)

Let me take time to specially applaud those that understand what true style really is….I wouldn’t  name names but Kudos!! We see you.

This post is not about any of those people though, this is a special call to order for those who choose to dress like they are going as a masquerade for the ‘Arondizuogu Festival’ (Yup , I have been).

Gele and Double breasted Jacket, Agbada and Midi Skirt……..it was nothing short of MADNESS!!!! So maybe I exaggerated but really, I was used to seeing all those street style posts from previous years but seeing them in person took my breath away and struck a cord.

The usual excuse is New York, Paris and London Fashion week but come on! Most of these people actually dress like that on a day to day basis (they have blogs and websites….check them out), THAT IS THEIR STYLE. They do not in the name of dressing eclectic combine the most mismatched pieces in their wardrobe.

Here is my advise; Fashion is what is in trend, style is how you choose to wear it.

Ten people can match a trouser in ten different ways doesn’t mean because you want to stand out you decide to wear it on your head.

TIP 1: Find your style

Look for pieces that represent you (I have found myself graduating towards basics, black and white of late). I will pick out 10 white shirts before I choose a drop dead gorgeous orange dress….that’s just me.

TIP 2: If you know you cannot wear the outfit anywhere else apart from Fashion week, PLEASE!!! Don’t even bother leaving your house, means you have over done or you just look plain CRAZY.

TIP 3: There is nothing wrong with simple, some of the people I think looked their best are people who stuck with simple. SIMPLE + CONFIDENCE = Sells any outfit, COUTURE + CRAZY= JOKE + MESS. If I attended the whole week long event, I would have worn a pair of Jeans and a t-shirt everyday because:

  1. I am not a designer
  2. I like to be comfortable, as long as I love the way I look, I am good -Most important, that’s my style

NOTE: The only excuse to dress crazy is  IF YOU ARE GOING TO OWN IT! and make it the new cool.

Signed

Fierce, Crazy and a Lil bit of love….xxx
