If you’ve ever come across young Nigerian women and men who speak a lot of ‘phoneh’ and have no clue how things work in ‘Naija’, chances are you’ve encountered an IJGB – I Just Got Back, not a fake wannabe with a confused accent.
Now, while I have no idea who coined the phrase, it simply means someone who was born, and raised abroad. Abroad meaning places outside Africa, so Ghana, Sierra Leone and Egypt don’t count…Thank you very much.
Very recently, there has been an increased influx of the IJGBs who all want to be Nigerian again. And while we don’t necessarily know why, this video explains what drives them.
