If You’re Single This Valentine, Here’s What You Should Be Doing

Let’s start this story a little petty by singing, ‘Valentine is coming, where is your partner? You are sitting at home lonely!’ However, this song doesn’t have to represent your reality, even if you are single.

Valentine

True, Valentine’s Day is a very emotionally draining day to be single, especially when you want to be in a relationship. Still, you don’t have to let societal pressure win. You can still have an excellent Valentine’s Day alone, and it’s perhaps a great thing that it’s on a Monday this year.

Just in case all those lovely words of wisdom were not enough to remind you that you can enjoy Valentine’s alone in the grandest moments of masturdation, then the following should.

1. Have a movie night: The best part of being single is getting to enjoy your own company. So, instead of wondering what could be on Valentine’s Day, get lost in other people’s worlds. Get wrapped up in a warm blanket, blast the AC or turn the fan to the highest and watch your favourite shows or series. If you add some popcorn and a little wine and make the best of your Showmax subscription, you won’t even realise when February 14 becomes 15, and the worst of it will be over.

2. Enjoy a cheat day: Sometimes, all you need to feel better is some junk food. Valentine’s Day is not the time to be on a strict diet when you are single. It’s the one day you should allow yourself to overeat on your favourite snacks while reading a book or watching interesting videos on social media.

3. Take yourself on a date: Who says you can’t go on a date on Valentine’s Day? If you feel up to it and can afford to take yourself out, please make sure you do just that. The best choices would be a complete spa date, dinner, or even a simple movie date. You may think it would be sad, but you’ll be surprised how many other single people will be out enjoying their own company. You may just connect with one of those people and start your brand-new love story on a day that may have been sad. But you’ll never know if you don’t try.

4. Have friends over: You don’t have to spend the day alone. There’s no way you are the only single person you know. Take advantage of the fact that all the couples are probably together and have a fun singles hangout with your friends. A few rounds of games, alcohol shots and good old-fashioned gisting should help you forget all the hype of Val’s day.

5. Troll the lovers on social media: If you decide that joy is just not for you, please choose ‘vawulence’. Try having some fun trolling all the happy couples on social media by teasing them. Maybe you’ll meet someone in the comment section that would think you are hilarious, and you both can become the couple getting trolled next year.

6. Enjoy some retail therapy: People underestimate the power of buying new things and receiving presents. If there’s no one to give you a gift on February 14, buy yourself something you’ve been wanting. Just don’t break the bank trying to bury your feelings in shiny, new things.

If all else fails, catch up on some sleep because what else can you do? If you decide to have a movie night, binge watch your favourite series or movies on Showmax for as little as N1,200. For more information, visit www.Showmax.com.
