“Our Society Is Obsessed With Age” – Media Personality, Bolanle Olukanni

Our society is obsessed with age. We applaud those who don’t look like they are ageing with a badge of honour. But then we insult those who use botox to look youthful as frauds. Aren’t they just responding to what society rewards – never age?

Then there is the “ageing gracefully” narrative. Another badge of honour society gives to those who look older but are doing while looking “beautiful”. Tueh!

Society is so ageist. I said this before. Why must we describe people as “ageless”? If we are gonna feign “wokeness”, let’s cut that bullshit out. Ageing is natural and necessary. Say someone looks beautiful and leave their “ageing backwards” out of it.

I have done this in the past, but honestly and now in hindsight – I think is unnecessary. There is so much negative stigma around ageing – “40 is the new 30”, etc. Why can’t we just let things be? 40 is 40, lol, 30 is 30. I don’t know what that means, but let it mean something to you and your identity.

Know yourself, know your purpose on earth, live in truth. That’s the most important thing that matters when it comes to being on earth and time moving – making the most of our time here.
