Sometimes Letting Go Is The Best Expression Of Love

He was drowning, deeper and deeper into the pit of insanity that was gradually clogging his mind, she thought. Her once charming and handsome husband was slowly slipping away and she could do nothing to save him.

She watched him walk in, ever so calmly, his fingers which she had once called beautiful, carefully pinching away at his right eye, his focus intent. He did not seem to notice her as he picked and picked, until his eye was left swollen. His mission accomplished, he started to pace round the room, as though trying to remember something really important.

Looking at him now, she felt so terrible, she wished she had agreed to have him confined to the ward like the doctors had advised, instead of stupidly hoping that her love would cure him.

Stopping suddenly, he looked directly at her. How did he know she was standing there, she wondered as sudden fear overtook her. She walked him walk towards her, his face enraptured, a weirdly surprised expression written on it, as though he was wondering where this ethereal creature had come from.

‘You’re beautiful,’ he said, as he drew close, now standing just a foot away from her.

She did her best not to show her fear

‘Honey, of course, I am,’ she said, trying so hard to sound impish.

Suddenly, his expression changed, like a light had suddenly gone off in his head. His enchanted expression became one of fury, resentment. He grabbed a handful of her hair and yanked hard, pulling her to his chest.

He seemed to enjoy watching her look so small and helpless as he laughed out loud in that demonic manner she detested. He punched her hard in the face, causing her to fall back and land painfully on the couch. She did not scream, as she knew that would tick him off even more, only cringed from the pain, whimpering a little as she stood up, trying to get away from him.

‘Don’t do this, my love, it’s me. Honey, what happened out there?’ she asked frantically, even as she slowly stepped away from him. Finally, she lifted herself up and was about to run off, when he grabbed her by the arm, twisting it behind so hard she could not stop the scream from leaving her lips this time.

His eyes shone as he yanked harder, turning her around in the most brutal manner. He smiled when he saw the tears spilling down her face and ever so gently, rubbed one finger against her cheek in a useless attempt to dry her now soaked and swollen face, a strange look of awe on his face.

She knew that look. It never ever ended well.
