Diary Of A Nigerian Student In Ghana – (Part 2)

My life in Ghana begins.

Nigerian girl in Ghana

On getting there, I was charged 30 Cedi for a fare of 10 Cedi and I became a “mugu” for the second time, the same day – a whole Naija girl like me. But then again I had been told that Ghanaians are very sincere and trustworthy and would never cheat anyone, maybe this is why I fell mugu.

I got to the campus and I met with the person in charge of admissions for Nigerian students. I must confess, I was disappointed with what I saw that the first thing that crossed my mind was to pick my bags and run back to where I was coming from.

But I braved it and continued with my registration and this was where I fell “mugu” for the third time. Instead of the usual 400 Cedi for accommodation, my Nigerian “brother” charged me 600 Cedi. Like why you gotta do a sister like that? I only found out I was swindled when I got to the hostel and met other Nigerian students who told me about him.

As a Lagos girl that has been taken advantage of thrice, I decided to pay back in my own way and Mr. Komolafe was going to be the scapegoat.

So I made him pay. How? I will tell you. But first let me tell you about my roommates Eddy and Anu and my first boyfriend, Kolade.

Eddy – everyone feared her, not because she is a troublemaker, but because she is never afraid to call you out on your bullshit; Anu on the other hand – the pretender. Oh she can pretend for Africa! This girl talks like a saint, smiles like a saint, walks like a saint, spends money like a “child of God” (boy, can she mice money!), she prays, even wears her Sutana (the white garment celestial people wear) to sleep making us dread opening our eyes in the midnight when the lights are out because we might see her in her white garment and mistaken her for a ghost. It actually happened once – on a Sunday night, we had all gone to bed when we heard a scream. “Jesuuuuus!” It was Eddy. “Jesus, put on the light, put on the light.” I quickly did. “What is it, Eddy? Talk to me”. And then she hisses and goes off on Anu. “Anu! Na you? Which kind gown you wear sef? I think say na ghost o. If na play, stop am o. Shioor.”

LOL.

So, the boyfriend, Kolade. I made it clear to him that pre-marital sex was out of the question and he agreed. Kolade was handsome, brilliant, and everything I ever dreamt of and I wasn’t shy to flaunt him every chance I got. But it was only a matter of time before boyfriend got tired of practicing an abstinence he didn’t plan for and unbeknownst to me, another girl was by the corner giving him the green light.

And even though the all knowing Eddy hinted to me more than a few times that my relationship was doomed, I didn’t pay her any mind because I never saw it coming.

When it eventually happened, I was totally broken. I cried for months because this was my first fine bobo and to lose him the way I did? Man, I was shattered. It was even made worse by the fact that he did it with you won’t believe who…or would you?
