Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women worldwide – over 2 million new cases in 2018 alone.
One of the first steps to preventing the deadly disease is self examination which will help with early detection.
But what do you look out for when conducting a self examination?
1. Nipple discharge: Unless you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, nipple discharge is not normal.
2. A rash or crusting of the nipple or surrounding area.
3. A sudden change in size or shape: Although breasts swell during menstrual periods or ovulation, a sudden change in its size or shape should make you suspicious.
4. Nipple inversion or change in direction.
5. Changes in skin texture such as puckering or dimpling.
6. Swelling in your armpit or around the collar bone: Your armpit area is still part of your breast.
