A Look at President Buhari’s Bottega Veneta Loafers at APC Presidential Primaries

After hours of listening to the presidential aspirants of the All Progressive Congress (APC) reel out their plans for the nation and hours of counting of votes on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, one thing caught the attention of many viewers as they waited for the announcement of the winner. It was President Muhammadu Buhari’s shoe.

As the President returned to Eagle Square in Abuja, venue of the primaries on Wednesday afternoon for the announcement of the winner, he stepped out for the event in his traditional blue Agbada outfit which he complimented with a Bottega Veneta Fiandra Intrecciato leather loafers worth $799 (331,585 naira at 415 naira exchange rate) according to Ikrix store where it is up for sale.

The shoe is one of the president’s many luxury purchases and this is not the first time Buhari will be spotted in the shoe.

Since becoming President in 2015, Buhari’s fashion game has gone to a new level. The President, who is seen by many as a modest man and rode to power based on this perception, is setting a very high bar with his luxury outfits and preppy style in the last seven year.

In September 2021, he was seen in a Gucci 1953 horsebit leather loafer worth $640, and that’s just one of the new luxury additions to his wardrobe since he became president.

His wife, Aisha Buhari, on the other hand, does not hide her penchant for luxury.

At the APC Primaries, the First Lady wore a white outfit with specs of green and a scarf tied around her head as a hijab with a striped coloured cloth on her shoulders.

At the 2019 democracy day event, the First Lady channeled a dress made by American haute couture designer, Oscar De La Renta, which is currently sold out. The dress used to go for $4,290.

She also caused a stir on the internet in 2017 when she rocked the Oscar de la Renta caftan dress worth over $1,000 to receive the first lady of Uganda.
