For years, the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) have served as that one platform that gathers some of Africa’s biggest movie stars annually to honour them for their contribution to the film industry. In simple terms, It is our own Oscars, and celebrities are expected to attend in style.

Most times, the celebrities in attendance understand the assignment and sometimes there are epic fails that we cannot help but mention years after the event has ended.

Simi Drey Fails To Channel Kim Kardashian’s Look

As much as the 2022 AMVCAs had some stunning designs, some were a bit more shocking. Simi Drey’s take on Kim Kardashian’s signature Balenciaga style was one of those.

In a long while, there has not been an epic fail that was as epic as this was.
From the fitting of the dress to the choice of accessories, and the overall fit of the outfit, nothing matched the event’s theme. The outfit itself did not flatter Simi’s body type.

James Brown In Lady Whistledown’s Costume

James Brown is dramatic, so when he showed up in a Regency-era outfit to the AMVCAs most people could tell it was for the drama. However, he could have made his point while looking good at it, but he managed to fumble the bag.

The colour of the dress did not blend well with his skin and the fit was not AMVCA-worthy. We hope to see a better version of this on the carpet on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Harrysongs Takes Fashion Innovation Too Far

Fashion has to be innovative. It’s the way fashion enthusiasts can express themselves in the times they are in. However, there would never be a point where Converse would be an acceptable shoe option for traditional Agbada attire.

It seemed like he had a perfect idea of what he wanted to go for but missed it with his choice of shoes and the use of a turban. The traditional, modern, and Fulani look was not a mix that worked, which is why he was almost dragged to filth at the 2020 AMVCAs.

Technically if a stylist was contracted to dress Senator Dino Melaye for his appearance at the 2020 AMVCAs maybe we would not have seen the ill-fitting suit he wore to the award show.

No piece on the outfit complimented each other, and it was sad to see. These are one of those fashion moments we should never reminisce about.

Denrele has always had a playful and eccentric approach toward style. His style is flashy and extravagant, and there is no issue with that. But, you also have to know how to style these outfits so that they do not drown your frame.

This is exactly what happened on the 2015 AMVCA red carpet as he wore a revealing gold-coloured gown, accessorised with a gold mask and open-toe gold heels. It was a travesty.
