Baba Dudu, Goody Goody, Leke Leke Bami Leke… I Miss My Childhood!

Adulthood is like a major scam!!! I remember wanting to grow up so fast and doing stuff adults were doing – if only someone had warned me.

The recently celebrated Children’s Day got me reminiscing on growing up and all the fun I had while at it. The various delicacies we got to eat or buy with the kobo we were given – Goody Goody, Baba Dudu, Petit, Okin Biscuit (it came in both square and round shapes) – the list goes on. I’m sure other names are popping into your head as you are reading this. Sad that kids of these days might never  know what the Naira coin looks like.

Rolling tyre on the street with other kids with just pants on and then riding bicycle around the neighbourhood was pure fun! That’s when you see other kids trying to be your friends so they can also ride your bicycle and you start feeling cool with yourself.

Having to play games on the street after school with your friends, like Suwe, where you jump lines drawn on the floor with a partner you choose, Daddy and Mummy, Who’s in the Garden, Mr. Macaroni, Hide and Seek etc – those were the good days.

When we had no other worries other than waving our little hands and chanting “leke leke bami leke” as birds flew by hoping to get white dots on our nails.

During Children’s Day you get to have anything you want from your parents and they take you to fun places like Amusement park, bar beach etc where you get to meet other kids from different schools.

Nothing really beats these memories! And looking at all the bills, all the responsibilities and wishing I wasn’t in such a hurry to grow up. ????
