British-Nigerian Plus- Size Model Olakemi, Championing A Body Positivity Cause

Olakemi Obi is a Nigerian plus-size model based in the UK. She champions a cause for body diversity, not just for different sizes but different races.

She used to be a tomboy in her university days, wearing men’s clothes because she wasn’t confident. She was inspired by black plus-size model, Toccara Jones who was on the third season of America’s Next Top Model.

She got into modelling after getting to the top five of Ms Curvaceous UK. Since she started her career, she has walked the runway at Plus Size UK, Nigerian Fashion Week and other fashion shows.

She has also appeared on Sky News, Daily Mail, TVC, Pulse Nigeria, Nigerian Entertainment Today, and modelled for Khloe Kardashian’s Good American. Olakemi who appeared in one of Calvin Klein’s campaigns in 2019 has a motto, “F Pretty, I’m Beautiful”.

Her passion for racial diversity in the modelling industry drove her to start the ‘Plus Is Diverse’ campaign. The Plus Is Diverse campaign was created to let every female know that they can relate to someone in the spotlight somehow. She told Buzzfeed in an interview, “I love diversity, full stop”.
