Executive Styling 101: The 411 To Stealing A Celebrity’s Red Carpet Style

So the Oscars Award has come and gone but the award’s red carpet styles will continue to linger in our memories. I’m pretty sure fashion enthusiasts around the globe have a couple of looks that they are already planning to ‘steal’  in the nearest future (myself included). Just because every now and then even the most serious professionals want to wear a tux/dress to showcase that inner star.

While it is good to go through the wow motions for celebrity red carpet styles and even move on to stealing these styles for ‘Owambe’ events and all, it’s important to take the styling seriously so one doesn’t end up in the ‘what I saw on the red carpet vs what my tailor sewed for me‘ column (especially at the styling level). So I’ll be sharing a few tips that can help you at worst just replicate the celebrity red carpet looks and at best rock it even better!.

Plan to outdo

Kelly Ripa in Christian Siriano

The first decision you must make after seeing and saving that look is to out do the celebrity. Don’t even think for a minute that it’s going to be easy. Talk is cheap, and you’ll probably just get a penny for this thought. So it’s doesn’t just end at making a decision or mere thinking about it,  you need to put your self in the frame of mind that is ready to give that style all it takes. Trust me it’s a lot of work.  So you’re probably eyeing that Taraji Henson’s Oscars 2018 look, don’t forget the minute details like the fact that she has a stylist, wardrobe manager and even a designer at her beck and call. So get ready to put in all the work.

Every piece counts

Danai Gurira

From the head piece to the sandals, never ever belittle the importance of any piece in a red carpet style. Best believe, the glam, magic, paparazzi; it’s all in the details. So like someone   going to war, count the cost so you can win the war. And while you are at it, make sure you don’t leave anything out. It’s better to know if you can pull off that style by planning accordingly than slamming it at the last minute and wishing for a fashion miracle that you could have created in the first instance.

Go for Quality & Fit

Kendall Jenner

Yes you now know what the celebrity wore head to toe, but it doesn’t end there, for the fashionistas with a large purse, it’s all about going to the designer’s store and picking up the dress while for some its about looking out for the dress’ high fashion equivalent at a departmental store. Don’t let whatever category you fall in limit your slay. Be sure to go for quality and perhaps the most important thing make sure you have the right fit. A 5k dress can look better than a 20k dress if the former fits better than the latter.

Own The Look

Serayah

I’ve seen a few people rocking head to toe celebrity styles and I have never been impressed, there’s something missing, simply put, the magic of something new. As much as celebrity styles can be an inspiration to look good, I think copy and paste is an insult to the copycat’s fashion intelligence. Come on, add yours! I like to believe there’s no perfect look, there’s always one fashion piece you wish you left out or added. So there always room for owning one aspect of the look or another. Just do your own analysis so you can introduce your own unique piece to the style mix.

Don’t Forget the Little Big Things

Sometimes it’s not just about the pieces worn, the smile, the charisma, the fact that there’s a red carpet underneath, the professional photo, the ambience and location all add to what seemingly looks like a celebrity stepping out in a particular outfit.  And the only reason why you want to cop it is because everything has come together to make that fab look you saw on the gram. So don’t just wear the look, finish off with the right mix and most importantly, the power pose!
