Every MSCHF release is an opportunity for the brand to do mischievous things that keep them in the news or take them to court all in the name of art. On Valentine’s day in 2021, they released a $2,140 MSCHF Heartbreak defibrillator that they called the Heart 2 Electric Boogaloo, which can be used for medical use. Their message was simple, MSCHF cares about your heart.
But in a list of absurdities by the brand, this is just a small piece. In December 2022, they released the MSCHF Fruit Loop with just one giant loop. Priced at $19.99, the fruit loop can be likened to Kellogg’s cereal brand. That’s not all, In the same month they launched the MSCHF ATM that shows a leaderboard of their users’ current account balances and they put it on display at the Miami Art Week.
There are no boundaries, and there are no lengths that MSCHF won’t go to deliver its message. It’s particularly commendable that they keep creating the craziest of ideas, and still, people keep talking about them.
Like every other release they have captured the world’s attention with the MSCHF Red Big Boot, and we simply have to discuss how many times they have caught the world’s attention with their shoe releases.
Jesus Shoes Filled With Holy Water
MSCHF in partnership with INRI (Iesus Nazaraeus Rex Iudaeorum), produced customised Nike Air Max 97 sneakers that depict the Matthew 14:25 miracle of Jesus walking on water. They injected the bubble soles of each pair of sneakers with 60cc holy water sourced and blessed from the River Jordan.
With a combination of steel crucifix shoelaces, insoles scented with Frankincense, and biblical inscriptions, the sneakers went viral and sold out within a minute of its release on October 8, 2019. The starting price was $2,499.
Custom Air Max 97 Satan Shoes
When the Lil Nas X Satan shoes were unveiled there were multiple debates on the ethical nature of this release considering the fact that MSCHF had added a drop of human blood to the air bubble midsole of the shoe, which they plan to only sell 666 pieces of. Scary right?
The sneakers that were released in collaboration with Lil Nas X was met with a lawsuit from Nike as they disassociated themselves from the release. The sneakers sold out in minutes but were bought back at the original retail price of $1,018.
MSCHF AC.1 Orthopaedic Boots
The MSCHF AC-1’s are not your regular sneakers, they are in fact more orthopaedic boots than sneakers, which is not far from what the brand intended for the shoe to serve as.
“We’ve collectively aestheticized glasses, but the trend of functional medical accessories making the leap to fashion seems to have lagged. No longer. Let’s push the envelope on what footwear is; footwear should be anything that you wear on your feet.” said Daniel Greenberg, MSCHF co-founder.
The shoe, which was released in 2022 was sold at retail for $450 USD.
MSCHF Gobstomper
MSCHF made this sneakers for people who wear their sneakers until they’ve ruined them completely. With the MSCHF Gobstomper created in collaboration with Jimmy Fallon, they’ve been able to create off-white sneakers with colours layered underneath, so that as soon as the sneakers wear down, the colours underneath form an artistic pattern.
However, instead of wearing the sneakers till they show the colours underneath, people started scratching new pairs of the sneakers to form these patterns. At the time of sale in 2022, the sneakers were going for $195.
MSCHF Big Red Boots
Every year MSCHF finds a way to make fashion statements with their creations, this time it is with the Big Red Boots described as “Cartoon boot for a Cool 3D World.” The boots, which cost over $500 have had even the most unfashionable people purchase them because of how fun they look.
According to MSCHF “Cartoonishness is an abstraction that frees us from the constraints of reality. If you kick someone in these boots they go BOING!” and we are not mad at the boots.
