What Your Choice Of Fragrance Says About You

Smelling good is necessary, but whatever scent you choose says a lot about your likes and what you want to be perceived as, not only in terms of smell but also in your persona.

Olores
Olores scented candles and diffusers.

According to Life Sciences Professors at Harvard, ‘Smells are handled by the olfactory bulb…Odours take a direct route to the limbic system, including the amygdala and the hippocampus, the regions related to emotion and memory.’

Whatever fragrance you’ve chosen to wear reflects your experiences and personality. Perfumes and fragrances have gone beyond wanting to mask body odours; it has become a way for self-expression.

Natalie Obi, CEO of Olores Ltd, a home fragrance company, in an interview with 234star, had mentioned that in her five years in the fragrance industry, she had noticed that Nigerians prefer sweet, that is, oriental scents.

Here are a few scents and what they say about you.

Oriental
According to Olores CEO, Nigerians gravitate towards Oriental scents. Oriental scent lovers are exotic, fun loving, daring, and sensual. Doesn’t this represent the overall vibe of Nigerians?!

Gourmand
Gourmand has food like fragrances like chocolate, vanilla, coffee, cinnamon, etc. This scent generally denotes hedonism.

Aqua/Fresh
In an interview with Natalie Obi, she revealed that only a few women like fresh scents. People who gravitate toward these scents are often cool, casual and free-spirited. These people tend to be spontaneous as well.

Oud
They are usually characterized as masculine scents. They basically represent a strong form of masculinity. Ouds are, however, not specifically for men; some women like wearing strong scents.

Floral
As the word denotes, it’s pretty feminine. Olores CEO disclosed that about 30% – 40% of Nigerian men gravitate towards floral scents. Floral scent lovers are usually friendly, carefree and smiley.

All these scents and more are available at Olores’ store. There would also be an opportunity to create your candle with your favourite fragrance while learning the basics and more for just N25,000 at Olores 5th anniversary party at CCX Lagos, 273 Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
