In 1995, Ramona Brant was sentenced to life without parole for conspiracy to sell cocaine. She was 31 and according to her, only played a small part in the crime because her abusive drug-dealing boyfriend forced her into it.
So, off to prison she went, leaving her three and four years old sons to the care of other people.
Fast-forward to December, 2016 – 21 years after she lost her freedom, fate smiled on Ramon as she, along with 94 other federal inmates, were granted clemency by President Barack Obama.
Fusion captured the very emotional moment Ramona, now 52, walked out of prison for the first time into the arms of her family and friends.
