Actress Dakore Egbuson-Akande Will Speak at NECLive8

Multiple award-winning Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, will join the eighth edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive) as one of its speakers, next Sunday, April 25, 2021.

Stylised NECLive8, the conference is themed ‘Building the Future’. It seeks to uproot, address, and proffer solutions to fundamental industry problems facing creatives.

Since its inception, the conference has earned a reputation as the largest gathering of industry professionals in the Nigerian entertainment industry. The event will assume a hybrid format of remote studio set-up of speakers broadcasted to a global audience via cable television and streaming.

Originally from Bayelsa state, Dakore was born in Lagos on October 14, 1978. She commenced her primary education at Corona School, Gbagada, and then proceeded to Federal Government Girls College, Bauchi, for her secondary education. She enrolled at the University of Lagos to study mass communication.

Having shown a flair for the performing arts since her primary school days, Dakore launched her acting career in 1999. She later ventured to London with the prospect of advancing her career. This came at a time when Nollywood actors embarked on a nationwide strike,  stalling the release of all film productions.

Eventually, her quest for growth led her to perform on the Royal Festival Hall stage in London. Upon her return to the country, she starred in various successful flicks. She became highly sought-after by not just movie directors but also by commercial brands like Nigerian Breweries for endorsement purposes. She has also worked with non-governmental organisations like Amnesty International and ActionAid Nigeria.

So far, Dakore has appeared in over 60 movies with prestigious awards to back her career. In 2018, she won in the Best Actress category at the African Movie Academy Awards 2018 for her performance in ‘Isoken’.

Dakore is also a successful businesswoman. She is a member of the board of directors at UK-Dion Investment Limited.

“Nigeria’s film industry has experienced significant growth over the past two decades. Some challenges that we faced back when I was starting out no longer exist today. However, for us to fully capture the remarkable value of this market, all stakeholders must make a decision to invest in building the future we dream of. I am honoured to be speaking at NECLive this year and I look forward to sharing my thoughts on how to build this future.” Dakore said.

Femi Falodun, CEO, ID Africa, expressed confidence in the actress’ participation, “Dakore truly understands the industry, its challenges and opportunities. She has been here since the Home Video era and still going strong in this era of streaming. We are confident that her experience and insights will greatly enrich this year’s NECLive conversations.”

The conference will feature a live music performance, comedy set and live stage dramatic exhibition. Viewers across the world can watch live on Hip TV (DStv channel 324 and GOTV channel 74), stream the event live on www.nec.ng or join the conversation on social media with the hashtag #NECLive8.

Other speakers for this year’s event include Nigerian comedians Bovi and Basketmouth; co-founder, Future Africa, Flutterwave and Andela, Iyin Aboyeji; Nollywood star, Dakore Egbuson-Akande; and founder of the Temple Management Company, Idris Olorunnimbe. Media personality, Bolanle Olukanni will serve as the host for this edition.

For seven years, NECLive has attracted over 12,000 physical participants and 20 million viewers and audiences on television and digital. Nigerian Entertainment Conference (often stylised as NECLive), with the hashtag #NECLive, is an umbrella conference for Nigeria’s entertainment industry, which continually discusses the sector’s trajectory and shapes the discourse and practices surrounding it.

#NECLive is the marketplace for innovative ideas, products, the unveiling of dynamic solutions that will connect, engage and encourage industry collaborations for sustainable socio-economic development; while offering a brighter future on the continent.
