Fashionista Memo: I Just Found The Most Basic Fashion Piece

There’s always being one question on my mind as a budding fashionista, ‘what’s that fashion piece that is the most basic of them all?’. For all the fashion workshops I’ve attended, It always seem to be the white shirt or denim jacket, At a point it was even the maxi dress. Now I’m not saying that these basics are not wonderful foundations to build a wardrobe on, I’m just saying that most fashion enthusiasts forget the most basic piece of them all, the ‘White Sneakers’.

After pondering about the reason for the oversight, I came to the conclusion that perhaps most people don’t take casual fashion seriously, Well why should anyone take a casual basic piece seriously? Or even see it as a foundation to build a closet on?’. Stay with me and I will share the why as I’ve discovered for myself below.

The wow effect 
Nothing speaks wow like the white sneakers. It automatically displaces the other fashion pieces in an outfit and commands all the attention to itself. It’s something I haven’t seen the like of in a while till I rocked my first pair of white sneakers last week. Everyone literally got hooked when they glanced at my sneakers.  For someone who loved adding wow pieces to my look, I wondered why it took me so long to include this basic piece to my closet.

The effortless vibe
Whenever you don’t feel you have the strength for putting an outfit together  (Trust me even the most stylish of us all has had that moment). I had mine few days ago and I was glad I had the white sneakers to fall back on. My aim was just to slam it all together and look decent enough to step out the door, so I just picked my go to dark colours and paired it with the white sneakers, I couldn’t believe the look I saw in the mirror, effortless and definitely stylish!

Chic & Clean
Ever heard the words chic and clean? To be honest not many looks can nail these attributes at once. But there’s one fashion piece I’ve realized has the capability to do so, you guessed right, the white sneakers of course! Funny how I wasn’t looking for chic or clean lines when I stepped into my pair of white sneakers, I just found myself looking it, imagine  if I now intentionally styled for it. AH-mazing is definitely going to be the result.

Cool Kid 
If you’re aiming for the cool kid pass, your right of passage starts with the white sneakers, at least that’s the feeling I got while rocking mine.  Infact I got a hand shake from the cool kids pastor, can you beat that? I mean how close can anyone get to the cool kids nation than that if you weren’t born into the Otedola family, if you doubt me, try finding your way into a cool kids’ hangout and See if you wouldn’t count up to 10 white sneakers, then you’ll realize the white sneakers is actually part of the cool kids uniform.

The White Sneakers I’ve come to realize is not just a basic piece,  sometimes it can even become the main piece that brings a spark to an outfit. And its one piece that can go with almost anything. Trust me I’ve tried to debunk this argument but I had to give up, suit, skirt, pants, dress, denim, the styling possibility is endless.

It took a long while for to get mine, particularly because I never really styled it seriously during my NYSC and In recent times I never really saw the right one for me.  I really feel I’ve missed a whole lot by not adding this staple piece to my wardrobe earlier and so are you if you don’t have it in your closet yet. My advice? Hit the shops and find the perfect one for you, let’s do this thing called fashion together!
