In case you’ve not heard, 90s fashion trends are now the rave of the moment. Over the years, fashion trends keep changing with new and creative ways for fashionistas to express their creativity. No matter how these trends change, they always make a comeback.

According to Voices of Gen Z, fashion trends always repeat every 20 – 30 years because of parental influences, which sometimes inspire current fashion. Although modified, most trends have roots in an older fashion trend.

All the fashion trends we rocked in the 90s and the ones you didn’t rock because you didn’t like them or you weren’t born then, are making a comeback in a more stylish way.

Here are five fashion trends from the 90s making a comeback in 2022.

1. Boot Cut Trousers

Boot Cut trousers, also known as wide-legged pants and bell-bottom trousers, were introduced in the early 1990s. The trouser, formerly the typical cowboy pants in the early 90s and used to perform menial tasks, is now considered fashionable. Today, these pants can be worn on different occasions, depending on their materials.

2. Crop Tops

Men are shamed for wearing crop tops in this generation, but crop tops were initially for men. In the early 70s, bodybuilders usually cropped their shirts to get around the dress code that didn’t allow them to be shirtless in the gym. Now, it has become incorporated into women’s fashion, and fashion-forward men are also seen following the trend.

3. Corset Dresses

Gen Z’s are particular about their aesthetics, how they want to look and be perceived based on their dressing; that’s why there are fashion aesthetics like Cottage aesthetic, emo girl and more. Corset dresses are vintage. The trend emerged in the 16th century to beautify women and ensure modesty.

4. Low Rise Jeans

Hollywood stars popularised these pants in the early 90s, although it was precursed by Irene Kasmer, in 1957, in Los Angeles. The pants, also known as hip huggers, are not everyone’s favourite, but they are fashionable depending on who styles them.

5. Bucket Hats

Before bucket hats became a fashion item, they were functional items. The hat, first conceived in the 90s by Irish farmers and fishermen who wanted to protect themselves from the rain, was made with waterproof wools. Now, bucket hats have become fashionable and an essential item in streetwear.
