African movie industry’s biggest night – the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) made a roaring return for the eighth edition on Saturday, May 14, 2022, after a year of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last edition was held in March 2020 just a few days before COVID-19 shuttered the world. AMVCA returned in 2022 with a week-long event featuring a runway fashion show, MultiChoice Talent Factory Day, pan-African food festival and cultural day, and Digital Content Creators’ Day before the award night on Saturday.
Bringing with it as it returns in its full glory is its glamorous red carpet where celebrities from the entertainment and creative industry unleashed their incredible fashion game. We must also admit that some were eccentric, while a few others went a little underwhelming.
Here are top 10 eccentric looks we saw at the award night:
Eze-Nwalie “Pretty Mike” Nwogu showed up carrying the whole of Lagos on his back. He wore a cape featuring the centre of excellence while holding a little lamb named “Kpokpo-Falegzy”.
Iheme “Ifu Ennada” Faith Uloma also channelled the Met gala to the AMVCA. She turned up in a transformer look she claimed was worth over 41, 526, 000 million naira. The dark edgy dress featured over 20 faces of Segun “Wealth” Adebayo’s signature dark mask, with a little black dress beneath.Nollywood sweetheart, Oyebade Adebimpe Adedimeji made her AMVCA red carpet debut with her beau and co-star Lateef Adedimeji wearing a princess-like purple dress. She then accessorised with jewellery from Wow Accessories.Fashionprenneur and creative designer Toyin Lawani-Adebayo showed up in a ‘maleficent dress’ inspired by the zodiac sign sketch of Shamekh Al-Bluwi. The dress featured what looked like a bull’s horn.Media personality Denrele Edun in a dark ensemble arrived at the show with lights. The AMVCA8 light bearer opted for a “mascara magician” look inspired by PHCN “transformer outage” and a chandelier.Big Brother Naija stars, including Anita “Tacha” Natacha Akide, Rebecca Nengi Hampson, and Erica Nlewedim also showed up in edgy outfits.Other Nigerian celebrities with peculiar looks include Media Personality Simi Drey, and social media personality James “Brown” Chukwueze Obialor.
