When the flat cap was mandated by the English Parliament for all non-noblemen and boys over age six in 1571, the sole aim was to boost England’s domestic wool sales, which accounted for most of the economy at the time.
Centuries later, it has grown on people not only because of how comfortable it is, but it has also become a high fashion accessory with various top personalities incorporating it into their personal style. One Nigerian artiste who has incorporated this fashion staple into his wardrobe is Victony.
The music star recently released streetwear-inspired merch for his fans in partnership with Wafflesncream, a streetwear brand, to create a graphic tee shirt with a drawing of his alter ego, Tredax.
In the pictures released, the singer paired the outfit with his signature flat cap that has become a staple Victony accessory with denim pants from Ev Bravado and Tela D’Amore’s brand, Who Decides War’s Fall/Winter 2022 Witness Collection.
While the variation of flat caps might have inspired us to go down history lane to understand the artistic reference, Victony’s constant 90s reference is channelled perfectly from his styling of flat caps to his styling of Jorts, he might just be our new streetwear favourite.
