Why I Never Repeat Clothes To Major Events – Chioma Ikokwu

Fashion influencers rarely post images of themselves wearing a fashion piece twice. Whether it’s for branding purposes or a personal preference, they never tell. For Chioma Ikokwu, it has to do with the ‘pop-tag’ and excitement that comes with trying on something new.

She revealed this during an exclusive interview with 234star on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, as she disclosed the idea behind her yard sale, which aired on episode three of The Real Housewives of Lagos and why she had so many clothes on display.

“I actually don’t like to repeat my clothes. I love pop-tags, the excitement of something new, how it looks on me, and the vibe is everything to me. Once I receive that, I can never feel it again when I repeat the outfit. For that reason, I don’t just enjoy wearing things again twice,” she told 234star.

Aside from the fact that she doesn’t get as much excitement, she also does not like when people associate an outfit with an event she had worn it to in the past, especially because people pay attention to her style.

“I get a lot of clothes as a fashion lover. So what happens is that I have tons and tons of clothes in my wardrobe, and I don’t have space to keep it. I have suitcases that are packed with clothes. It’s now a nuisance.”

As a result of getting lots of clothes gifted and comments that suggest that her followers will like to shop her looks, Chioma disclosed that it sparked an idea to hold a yard sale, where all these pieces are on display.

“Most comments I get on social media are ‘I want to shop in your wardrobe.’ They don’t even ask me for the new version because I’ve tagged the designer, but they want the one I’ve worn. Maybe because they like how it looks on me. So, it was kind of like a no-brainer to create an avenue where people can actually shop my closet,” she said.
