Hong-Kong born designer Robert Wun has become one of the go-to designers for Nigerian artistes, with Tems wearing a creation of his to the 2023 Met Gala and Tiwa Savage wearing a dress he designed to the 2023 British Fashion Awards. There is a level of theatrics and imbibing of artistic vision that has made him the top pick of Nigeria’s foremost artiste.

Burna Boy, for his groundbreaking concert, wore the Black Raven look from Robert Wun’s SS23 birding collection. The birding collection, which consists of silhouettes and elements that reminds one of swans, raven, and crane, was designed with nature and futurism in mind.

Wun, who created the collection in line with his AW21 collection, created the collection in honour of his grandmother, who passed died in October 2020.

In an interview with British Vogue, the designer said, “It was about playing with a material that looked like metal to create the illusion of wearing armour, but it’s actually made of fabric. The detail of the swallow’s tail is because it is my grandmother’s favourite bird from Hainan Island, where she is from. Through the armour, there is the softness of a pleat cut in the shape of a dovetail.”

The Black Raven look in which Burna Boy was styled consisted of pleats and frills. The outfit was the perfect theatrics he needed to make a statement as a fashion icon and a music star.
