Five Tell-Tale Signs You’re Dating A Narcissist

The word ‘Narcissist’ originates from the Greek word ‘Narcissus’. Narcissus was a hunter so obsessed with himself and his reflection it led to his demise.
Modern-day narcissists take a long page out of his story to craft one of their own.

You might not be able to easily spot a narcissist or even note if you’re one yourself. But here are five tips to help guide you.

Outwardly Charming and Charismatic.

Most narcissists usually have a large group of friends, are pretty popular, and are difficult to spot. Meeting a narcissist in a public space surrounded by friends, you’ll find they exude a certain charisma and charm over the gathering. They command everyone’s attention and are usually always in the spotlight. But not all narcissists are outgoing. Some are more reserved than others.

Can’t Take Criticisms

Typical narcissists can’t take criticisms, even constructive, helpful ones. They can be sensitive, especially when it comes to their abilities. A slight suggestion offered could be blown out of proportion to mean something else. They will thwart the actual message in your comment and pick offence. Narcissists do not have a habit of letting things go and therefore tend to obsess over everything.

Constant Need For Attention and Admiration

If you’re with someone who constantly wants to be the centre of attention, you might be dating a narcissist. When they are with you, they want your attention to rest solely on them. They typically have a habit of isolating their partners from friends and family. So the only person you’ll ever need is them alone.

Self Centered

With narcissists, your world has to revolve around them. They’ll have you cancel plans to meet up with theirs but can never extend the same courtesy. A narcissist wants you to be accessible and on speed dial when they need you but will often be absent when you need them. They’ll have you dancing to their beat while they’ll keep making decisions based on their desires.

Gaslight and Manipulate the Truth

“you’re being overly dramatic.” “you’re too sensitive.” These are common phrases narcissists employ in a conversation they’re losing. In their opinion, they’re never wrong. You can catch them in the act, yet they’ll manage to thwart the truth, spin a tale with you in the middle where they become the victim. They’ll have you doubting what you saw, your instincts, and questioning your sanity.
