How Adekunle Gold’s Party No Dey Stop Music Video Affirms His New Artistic Direction

Typically when the theme of a song is centred around the good life, what you would expect are visuals that depict that – carnival and club-inspired visuals. However, Aremu ‘Director K’ Olaiwola Qudus took a different approach, an approach that did not only affirm Adekunle Gold’s new artistic direction as a conscious yet fashion-forward artiste but showed a range of cinematography and quality that has become preeminent in the Nigerian music scene.

In a somewhat traditional setting, Adekunle Gold tells his story of the good life in high fashion as he rocked unconventional and colourful pieces accessorised in gold, with Uduak Betiku being the brains behind the overall styling of the music video.

Uduak Betiku is a Nigerian fashion consultant, experimental stylist, and the creative director behind Gang Styling. She has worked on multiple groundbreaking projects, including styling for music videos like Zinoleesky’s Loving You, Ayra Starr’s Sability, Burna Boy’s Common Person, Kizz Daniel’s Buga, and many more.

In the first frame where Adekunle Gold appeared he wore a red two-piece outfit consisting of a kimono jacket and wide-legged pants. He paired the outfit with gold accessories including gold chunky rings, claws, a Cuban link, and a stand-out emerald earring. He completed his look with the LuckyDior R1I sunglasses.

For his second look, he wore another two-piece look. The yellow outfit consisted of a uniquely structured blouse and wide-legged pants. The outfit was blinged out with different layers of diamond necklaces, rings, bracelets, and the Retrosuperfuture Marni Salar De Uyuni sunglasses.

On theme with the flowery scene in the music video, Adekunle Gold was styled in a more everyday look as he paired a crochet top with brown wide-legged pants and his usual accessories that have caused him to be entangled in controversy as the Outsiders (Burna Boy’s fanbase) have accused him of wanting to look like the Grammy-winning artiste – which is untrue by the way. Anyone can see this if they have followed his style evolution. He paired the last MV outfit with the Tom Ford Cassius sunglasses.

Aside from Adekunle Gold’s outfits, the cast for the mv all looked regal as the weavers had on traditional attires with high top headgear while the models were dressed in colourful bubu’s, agbada and kimonos that were accessorised in gold with distinct makeup looks.

To give off the traditional vibe, the backup dancers in the MV were clothed in a mix of contemporary and traditional outfits. Their leather pants were paired with traditional beaded head gears and gold body accessories and horns.

Overall, the colouring, styling, directing, and feel of the music video affirm Adekunle Gold’s new era. The era where he is playing at the superstar level with no time for his enemies but an assurance of who he is and a clear vision of how he plans to express himself.
